Providencia
The Providencia district is a lively district with its shopping streets and its more or less chic restaurants. It is also the business district with its tall buildings like the tallest tower in South America, the Gran Torre Santiago that we absolutely recommend that you visit. A 303-meter skyscraper, the tower offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of the entire Chilean capital.
In the business district, you can go shopping at the “Mall Costanera Center” which is located at the Gran Torre Santiago but also get lost in the alleys like Paseo La Villa. Do not miss the contemporary sculptures implanted here and there in the Avenida Santa Maria park.
Bellavista
Do you want to have fun, go out or have a drink ? You\’re in the right neighborhood ! The district with colorful houses is a bohemian district, ideal for relaxing or having fun. You will find street art, cafes, restaurants bars, discos and all in the open air! The busiest street is Pio Nono Street. During your stay, you can visit La Chascona, one of the house-museums of the poet Pablo Neruda. You can also take a stroll around the various theaters of national acclaim that populate this colorful district such as the San Ginés, the Mori Center or the Bellavista theater, among many others.
Historical center
This is where Pedro de Valdivia founded the city of Santiago. Originally, the military was based there, hence the name. Today, the square is bordered by the Palacio de la Réal Audiencia, by the Metropolina Cathedral or by the Museo Historico National. It’s the heart of the city, always bustling with its street vendors and shoe shiners, pleasant with islets of greenery planted with tall trees and water jets.
Things to See Around Santiago
Valparaíso : You will be amazed by the incredible architecture of this World Heritage City. Endless stairs, narrow streets and historic funiculars will allow you to discover every corner of this intriguing city. Stop at one of the many watchtowers to admire the view of the harbor. Discover the joy of its carnivals and the spectacular show of fireworks launched from the Fiestas de Fin de Año sea. Do not miss the visit of its port and its coves, which are the faithful portrait of the Chilean character. The freshly caught seafood market and the incredible fisherman\’s knack is a real pleasure !
Ski : From the end of June to September-October, it is possible to ski within 1.5 hours from Santiago. Meet at the resorts of Valle Nevado, El Colorado or La Parva. If you want to ski 1 week, go to Portillo. If you are a beginner, Lagunillas station is the closest station to the capital, located in Cajon de Maipo.
Vineyards : Discover the vineyards around Santiago like the Colchagua valley or those of Casablanca.
Cajón del Maipo : Go for outdoor activities in the surrounding mountains, such as rafting or bungee jumping in Cajon de Maipo.
